What do I do if my child knocks out a tooth?

Everyone expects their children to lose teeth – it’s part of growing and developing. But, one of the more scarier experiences with children’s development might be if they happen to knock out a tooth. Many people ask – what should I do? The first thing to do is remain calm, reassure the child that everything will be okay, and assess the situation. If the lost tooth is a baby tooth, keep it moist in a wet cloth and call the dentist to determine if a checkup is necessary to determine if all of the tooth came out or if it needs implanted again. If the tooth is a permanent tooth, do NOT clean the tooth off and cover it with milk or water right away. Also, call the dentist immediately to schedule an evaluation.
